Description

SS Metallic is a concentrated powdered metallic pigment designed for use in our SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy system. When applied over a properly prepared and primed surface, the effects that can be achieved are virtually endless, producing an extremely unique and desirable result. Available in an excellent variety of 20 earthy and vibrant colors.

SS Metallic is recommended for most cured, unsealed interior concrete substrates. Do not apply to a floor that has been sealed prior until all sealer has been completely removed. Follow directions for SS Metallic in combination with SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy.

Technical Information

Surface Preparation: If cracks are present, fill with SS Crack Fill (see Crack Fill Technical Data Sheet for further instruction). Mechanically grind or chemically etch surface to a CSP-2 or CSP-3 profile according to the ICRI guidelines (www.icri.org). See SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy technical data for detailed surface preparation instructions. PRIMER COAT: Mix SS Supreme Color Pac (black is recommended for optimum color effects) with SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy Part A, one bottle per 3 Gallon Kit of epoxy. Stir gently with a drill mixer for 1–2 minutes, or until color is thoroughly dispersed. Then add the appropriate amount of Part B and mix for an additional 1–2 minutes. (SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy mix ratio is 2A to 1B) Apply the mixed material with a brush, roller, trowel, notched squeegee or gauge rake and then back roll evenly at 100–150 sq. ft. per gallon. After approximately 10–16 hours, or until epoxy is thoroughly cured, you are ready to apply the SS Metallic coat. **For a faster curing prime coat, use SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy Primer–4 Hour. Mixing: Mix the SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy Part A portion of the epoxy kit with the SS Metallic color before administering the SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy Part B to the container. Add one 32 oz. container of SS Metallic color to 3 to 4 gallons of epoxy, or until desired opacity is achieved. Note: By mixing Part A with Metallic color before Part B is added, this will help suspend any pigment that has settled to the bottom of the can during shipment and storage and not cut into the expected potlife. Once the Part A portion of the material has been thoroughly mixed with the metallic color, add the Part B component to the Part A container. Stir gently with a drill mixer for 1–2 minutes, or until all products have adequately combined. (Note: Most pigments create a swirl pattern in the material even after it is completely mixed) No clear streaks in the mixed material should be seen. Completely scrape the bottom and the sides of the container to ensure no pigment is left in the container Application: Apply the mixed material with a brush, roller, trowel, notched squeegee or gauge rake, a ¼” notched squeegee is recommended, and then back roll evenly at 75–100 sq. ft. per gallon or at the desired mils of thickness. Applying the epoxy at this thickness will ensure that the SS Metallic can create its unique depth and patina. If the desired look is not being achieved, you can try experimenting with denatured alcohol. This is done by misting the alcohol over the epoxy and back rolling. As mentioned above, there is no set way to apply the SS Metallic system, so be creative and experiment with your own techniques. Always perform tests prior to applying to the entire floor!
OPTIONAL TOP COATS: Many times, applicators will top coat a SS Metallic coated floor with an additional coat of SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy or a more abrasion resistant urethane. Also, applying any SS Cherry Wax to the surface regularly will help to protect the epoxy from damage (typically applied after approximately one week from final Epoxy or Urethane application).
PLEASE NOTE: It is always recommended to test the product in a small, inconspicuous area (on the same concrete substrate) for desired results prior to application. Coverage rates may vary for all coatings and substrates depending on porosity, density, texture etc. Do not apply by spray method.

Use MEK for finished, colored epoxy coating. Soap and warm water is adequate to clean powder pigment only, from hands and skin. Dispose of containers in accordance with local and federal regulations.

See SS Aliphatic 100% Epoxy Technical Data Sheet for removal instructions.

SS Metallic has a shelf life of up to two years in its original, sealed, unopened container.

• SS Metallic will not freeze in storage, however, storage in areas between 50ºF and 85ºF is recommended.
• All HVAC ventilation ducts should be somehow blocked prior to application so solvent fumes are not distributed. It is recommended to turn OFF the HVAC system.
• It is not recommended to apply SS Metallic (finished material) over carpet, tile, or other types of floor adhesives.
• Coverage rates depend upon many conditions including application method, surface porosity, applicator, etc.
• SS Metallic was designed for interior concrete. It is not recommended for exterior applications.
• SS Metallic should not be sprayed. Refer to instructions above prior to use.
• SS Metallic may be mixed to form various colors. Note, we cannot be held responsible for color outcome.
• SS Metallic is intended to be a permanent application. Please test prior to use.
